Orange Shirt Day

Orange Shirt Day

All day
September 29, 2026

Students and staff at École Pauline Johnson are invited to wear an orange shirt to school on Tuesday, September 29th in recognition of Canada’s National Day for Truth & Reconciliation on September 30th.

The orange shirt has become a symbol of hope, reconciliation, and a commitment to a better future. By wearing an orange shirt to school, we make a statement to support reconciliation and commit to the enduring truth that CHAQUE ENFANT COMPTE (EVERY CHILD MATTERS). Orange Shirt Day is an Indigenous-led commemorative day that honours the children who survived the residential schooling experience and remembers those who did not as well as their families. This day relates to the experience of Phyllis Webstad, a First Nation student, who arrived on her first day of school dressed in a new orange shirt which was taken from her. Please read Phyllis’ story here.

Students at PJ will recognize “La Journée du Chandail Orange” in various, age-appropriate ways including exploring what “Chaque Enfant Compte” means and talking about “why I love school/what makes me feel safe”. Remember to have a look at our school Instagram for photos and timely learning updates
